What Happens in a Metabolic Balance Consultation? A Step-by-Step Walkthrough
If you have been curious about the Balanced by Design program but not quite sure what working together actually looks like, this post is for you.
One of the most common things I hear from new clients is that they were not sure what to expect. They have tried things before. Meal plans that felt generic. Programs that started well and then faded. Advice that made sense in theory but never quite translated into their real life.
What I do is different. Not because I have a magic formula, but because everything is built around you specifically: your biology, your history, your lifestyle, and where you want to go. The Balanced by Design program is structured to support real, lasting change rather than a short-term result that disappears the moment the program ends.
Here is exactly what the process looks like, from the very first conversation.
Step 1: The Assessment Call (Free, 20 Minutes)
Before anything else, we have a conversation. This is a free 20-minute call to find out whether the Balanced by Design program, or clinical nutrition support more broadly, is a good fit for what you are dealing with.
I will ask you about your main health concerns, your history, and what you have already tried. You can ask me anything about how I work, what to expect, and what the different program tiers involve. There is no obligation and no pressure. It is simply a chance to work out whether we are a good match before you invest any time or money.
This call is available by phone or video and is open to clients everywhere in Australia and New Zealand through telehealth.
Step 2: The Setup Appointment (60 Minutes)
Once we have decided to work together, the first formal appointment is a 60-minute setup session. This is where we go deep.
I take a thorough health history: your current symptoms, medical background, medications and supplements, digestive function, sleep, stress, hormonal health, and anything else that gives me a complete picture of what your body has been through and where it is now. We set your goals together, take initial measurements, and I order the specific blood tests needed to generate your personalised Metabolic Balance plan.
The blood tests are a critical part of the process. The Metabolic Balance system uses the results to build a food plan that is genuinely unique to your individual biochemistry. This is not a template. It is built from your data.
Step 3: The Plan Presentation (60 Minutes, Approximately 2 Weeks Later)
Once your blood results are back and your personalised meal plan has been generated, we meet again for a full plan presentation. This is one of my favourite appointments because it is where everything starts to feel real and exciting for clients.
We go through your plan in detail: the foods that are tailored to your metabolism, the structure of meals, the rules of the program, and how to navigate the first two weeks. We take a before photo, set a clear starting point, and make sure you feel genuinely prepared rather than just handed a document and left to figure it out.
I explain the reasoning behind every element of your plan. Understanding the why is part of what makes this a lifestyle shift rather than just another diet.
Step 4: The First Check-In Call (15 Minutes)
A few days into the program, we have a brief 15-minute phone check-in. This is intentionally low-key. It is a chance to address anything that has come up in the first days, answer practical questions, and make sure you are on track before you hit the first significant adjustment point.
Small things sorted early tend to prevent bigger stumbling blocks later.
Step 5: Ongoing Repeat Appointments
From the 10 to 14-day mark onwards, we have regular 30 to 45-minute appointments spaced throughout the program. These appointments are where the real clinical work happens.
At each visit we check weight and, every four to six weeks, take full measurements. We review how the program is sitting with your body and your life, progress through the structured phases of the Metabolic Balance system, and adjust the plan based on how you are responding. No two clients move through the program the same way, and the ongoing support is designed to reflect that.
These appointments are also where we address anything that is coming up beyond weight and metabolism: energy, sleep, digestion, mood, skin, and all the other things that tend to shift when the foundations are right.
The Three Program Tiers
The Reset program runs for three months and is built around the Metabolic Balance plan alone. It is the entry point into Balanced by Design and is suitable for clients who want a solid, personalised foundation for metabolic health, weight management, and energy.
The Clarity program runs for six months and incorporates the Endomap hormonal assessment alongside the Metabolic Balance plan. Approximately six to eight weeks into the program, we review your Endomap results together and integrate the hormonal insights into your treatment plan. This is the tier I most often recommend for women navigating perimenopause, hormonal weight gain, fatigue, and the symptoms that come with midlife hormonal change.
The Thrive program is the most comprehensive tier. It runs for six months and includes the Metabolic Balance plan, the Endomap assessment, and the Fitgenes DNA analysis. Fitgenes provides six detailed reports covering areas including detoxification pathways, inflammation, cardiovascular health, and nutrient metabolism. We work through one report per session from approximately eight weeks in, building a picture of your genetic blueprint that shapes every recommendation I make.
The right tier depends on your health history, your goals, and what you are dealing with. That is a conversation we have together during the Assessment Call.
What This Is Really About
The outcomes clients experience in the Balanced by Design program go well beyond weight loss, though that is often what brings people to the door.
The things I hear most often are about energy that finally feels consistent, sleep that has improved after years of disruption, a gut that is no longer running the show, skin that has cleared, and a sense of clarity and momentum that was not there before.
This program is a commitment. It asks something of you. But it is structured so that what you are asked to do is realistic, explained, and supported every step of the way.
Change that lasts is built slowly, on a foundation that actually fits your body. That is what Balanced by Design is designed to do.
